[OOC]

Backtagging: Sure!
Threadhopping: Probably? Let me know?
Fourthwalling: Unless you are from his Universe, he has no idea who you are.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): I'll update this as I find them.

[IC]

Hugging this character: He likes hugs
Kissing this character: He likes kisses
Flirting with this character: Go for it!
Fighting with this character: Glorfindel is always willing to spar, but he does not duel. Killing someone for the sake of killing is not his thing (looking at you, Kinslayers)
. Do not pull his hair.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): If sparring, he's willing to take a bruise or two. And he is a skilled healer if you injure yourself on him. Minor scrapes and things are fine, though if you are actually trying to hurt him deliberately, his aura of GOOD!! will probably keep you away. Talk to me if you feel there should be more.
Killing this character: In over 5000 years, only a Balrog has managed this, and it died doing so. I do not recommend pulling his hair.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: I am imagining this to be quite difficult. He's been around mind readers a fair amount (millennia). He has surface thoughts he may let you see, please ask.

[Other]

Good vs Evil: If you are Evil, you will feel uncomfortable in Glorfindel's presence and try to avoid him whenever possible (even the Witch-King did). If you are secretly good, you are welcome to come bask quietly in his company, he doesn't mind.

Empathy: If you got it, Glorfindel is like a cool breeze across sparkly water to you. He is Joyful, he is Light...and he has depths you probably don't want to probe too hard, as he has died and come back and is over 4000 years old on his second go-round.

He was born during the Age of the Trees, died in First Age 510, was re-bodied in Second Age 1600, and has not died a second time. The Age of the trees was not measured in years, so 510 in his first life, and ….math (3441-1600 = 1841 + 3019 (all of Third Age) = 4860 in his second. A spring chicken to some....

World Information: The world is split in two, quite literally these days: Valinor, the Undying Lands, and Middle-Earth, where Men hold sway at the dawn of the Fourth Age.

http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi?Of__Ainur__Valar__and__Maiar has to be one of my favorite versions of the founding of Arda.

Personal History: http://www.thetolkienwiki.org/wiki.cgi?Glorfindel or

https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Glorfindel or http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Glorfindel

Personality:
"Glorfindel was tall and straight; his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy; his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music; on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength." - Lord of the Rings, Many Meetings

How this manifests in the way I play him:
Glorfindel did not get to be one of Turgon's Captains, and the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower, and later one of Elrond's Council by being dumb, or awkward. He is intelligent, wise, observant, his people (both his House and later those of Imladris) loved him. They would follow him even to their deaths.

In his later years, he put his considerable energies toward keeping Imladris safe, working with Elrond, Gandalf, and others to do so. He follows his chosen Lord loyally, but is not above telling Elrond's children stories of when their Grandmother Galadriel and their Great-Grandmother Idris were young. The story of how Idris and Tuor came to meet and fall in love was a particular favorite of Arwyn, to his later sorrow. He is modest, but not unduly so, and will talk about his first death if asked, but claims that he did what any other would have done, had they been in his position. His friends just smile and nod at him.

Glorfindel is very fond of children, and has yet to meet one he could not charm. He smells of the flowers that are his House's namesake, and some might even say he has a certain glow about him.

In fact, he does glow. Specifically with the Light of Anar. Usually he can control this glow, though when around another Maia it intensifies. He has been known to use this to calm his troops' fears and guide them when all is dark and seems lost. Evil is uncomfortable around him and will flee his presence.

He does enjoy getting together with his fellows, over a few songs and a little wine, laughing and singing, or sitting quietly and reading. He does not train his troops any harder than he himself is willing to work.

Those who knew him from before he died the first time say that he is every bit as joyful and happy, that his time in Mandos's Hall did not leave a mark, and brings hope to those who have lost loved ones, that those who are in the Valar's care have found peace and healing.

He is especially fond of eagles and gold flowers.

Key themes:
Valor; Joy; Egalitarianism.

Main Motivation:
He was sent back to Arda to Guide and Protect.

Skills:
He has the powers of a Maia, plus the skills of an Eldar (Elf) who is several thousand years old. He sings, he dances, he fights, he rides a horse, and he does it so beautifully, that you don't mind that he's infinitely better at it than you. Also, you will never need a flashlight with him around.

Item:
Ornate hair clips that he uses when things get (trying to avoid the word hairy, trying to avoid the word hairy...) dire.

Sample:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/87607 is a small sample of Glorfindel's voice. Also:
Whenever Mithrandir, called Gandalf by the younger races, came to Imladris, Glorfindel took great pleasure in sneaking into the Wizard's room and seeing how long he could sit there before the other noticed. He had to do so during the day, of course; while he was very good at sneaking, when he was near Mithrandir, he was not as good at controlling the light that came from within him.

As dusk started to fall, Mithrandir sighed and put away his book, “How long this time, old friend?”

Glorfindel sat forward on the chair opposite him, “Since they brought in the tea tray. I was enjoying the peace and quiet. No one comes and bothers me when I'm here,” he added with a smile.

Mithrandir huffed a laugh. “No, I suppose they wouldn't. Well, Elrond or Erestor would, but unless it was an emergency I can see them letting you have a moment of fun.”

“And if it was an emergency they would undoubtedly want you as well, so I'm really just minimizing their need to send multiple emissaries,” Glorfindel said. He laughed as well, and the room brightened a bit more. “Really, though, if you don't want to get a reputation for being strange, you shouldn't read in the dark, shall I light the fire?”

“If I had a care for being thought as strange, I would be in for a world of disappointment,” Mithrandir pointed out. “And you usually find me on the first two or three days, I was just waiting to see if it would be today, and it was.”

At the sound of the evening bell, Glorfindel sighed, “Ah, that summons us to dinner. I guess my fun is over, and we must hie off to our duties again.”

Mithrandir nodded, then held up his hand to stay Glorfindel from rising. “There have been...rumors coming from the East. What have you....heard?”

Glorfindel settled back, his face and eyes serious. “From the West I have heard enough that I have been preparing Imladris's troops to march. They will be ready in a fortnight's time.”

“That corresponds with my own...hearing,” Mithrandir said. “I am very glad that Elrond does not take after either of his great-grandfathers and ignores the words of prophecy.”

Glorfindel nodded. “He does however give you a look if you are late to dinner. Shall we?”

Notes: Nope, not at this time.
